You Are More Than the Choices That You've Made /
March 2, 2011
I was driving in my car a while back, windows down,
enjoying the breeze splashing on my face
when I heard a line something like this come through the stereo speakers,
“the choices that we make, make us who we are.”
And I started chuckling to myself, thinking,
“oh how the world has got it wrong. If only they knew the truth,”
Burn the idea into the consciousness of every man that he can get well regardless of anyone.
The only condition is that he trust God and clean house. pg 98 Alcoholis Anonymous

For some recovery fellowships it seems that they are more accepting of you if you have hit a low bottom. Losing everything from your job to your entire family is required before anyone gives you the time of day.
In other recovery fellowships you are simply a member when you say you are.
What has been your experience and why is it important for new-comers to feel welcome and safe in a recovery meeting.

Do We Really Have a Part When Something or Someone Disturbs Us? Are Their Exceptions? / March 22, 2011
We have heard in 12 Step meetings and read in 12 Step literature that when someone or something disturbs us it is because there is something wrong with us and that we must find our part in the conflict.
But is that always true.
Tune in as Mason, Jimmy, Eve and the Monty'man explore this topic.

Prayer & Meditation Part 1 / May 4, 2011
The program of Alcoholics Anonymous was based upon The book of James, The Sermon on the Mount and 1st Corinthians 13.  All of which come from the Holy Bible.
Prayer and meditation was taught by the founders and was practiced on a regular basis. In fact is was such a big part of the early meetings that the success rate of those recovered could be measured by how often prayer and meditation was practiced.
In the next few weeks Monty, Eve and Bruce will be exploring prayer and meditation and the power and part it plays in our recovery.
Prayer & Meditation Part 2 / May 11, 2011

Just the mention of the word brings to mind all sorts of ideas from eastern religions to Christianity. What does the Bible say about Meditation and what does the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous say?
We will come from a Biblical perspective as this was the practice of the founders of AA.
What Do We Mean When We Say We Are Born Again? /
May 25, 2011
When we sincerely took such a position, all sorts of remarkable things followed. We had a new Employer. Being all powerful, He provided what we needed, if we kept close to Him and performed His work well. Established on such a footing we became less a nd less interested in ourselves, our own little plans and designs. More and more we became interested in seeing what we could contribute to life. As we felt new power flow in, as we enjoyed peace of mind, as we discovered we could face life successfully, as we became conscious of His presence, we began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter. We were reborn.  Alcoholics Anonymous p. 63
Are We Becoming Meeting Dependant? / June 1, 2011
The primary purpose of an AA meeting is to carry the message to the still suffering alcoholic that there is a solution to their drinking problem. We should convey that our best self-directed efforts to control our drinking are insufficient and we must tap into a power greater than ourselves for help. The twelve steps provide a path to achieving this solution.
If to lack of a meeting began to once again affect my serenity, I’d have to take a real serious look at my spiritual condition. Being dependent upon meetings to keep my head on straight doesn't sound like very much freedom to me.
Dealing With Those Difficult People / June 8, 2011
“We began to see that the world and its people really dominated us. In that state, the wrong-doing of others, fancied or real, had power to actually kill. How could we escape? We saw that these resentments must be mastered, but how? We could not wish them away any more than alcohol.”
– Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, How It Works, pg. 66

When Is It Appropriate to Let Go of a Sponsee? / June 22, 2011

The Moderate Drinker, the Heavy Drinker & the Alcoholic  /
July 13, 2011
“Moderate drinkers have little trouble in giving up liquor entirely if they have good reason for it. They can take it or leave it alone.” “Then we have a certain type of hard drinker. He may have the habit badly enough to gradually impair him physically and mentally. But what about the alcoholic?
